Petra: 7 wonder
We woke up early to wait at 6 am at the entrance of Petra, the fabled "rose red city, half as old as time", an UNESCO site and one of the seven wonders of the world. We finished the main trail in half in half of the time said in online info, and took photos at the Siq (a long, winding sandstone canyon with terracotta pipes built into the sides), a 7000-seat Roman Theater, the Royal Tombs, the Treasury, the Street of Facades, the Monastery (800 steps to climb up to), etc. We were so early to enjoy the places to ourselves.
My travel mates bailed out around noon, so I continued hiking two other trails on my own. The High Place of Sacrifice trail Led to the top of the mountain contains elaborate rock altars used for sacrifices. From the High Place, I viewed much of Petra from above Beautiful scenery including many interesting tombs and carvings missed by the average tourists.
I also took the Treasury Viewpoint Trail which led to three overlooks. After over 20-km of hiking, I ran out of water and energy and had to drink a coke to finish the Petra Museum then climbed back up to my hostel.
